Anita Ganeri
Minibeasts
We decided to buy this book because my mother liked the photo of the snail on the cover.
Anita Ganeri is a non-fiction children writer. She is the author of the award-winning series Horrible Geography. In the total she has written over 300 books.
The book tells us about different minibeasts: insects, slugs, snails and worms, millipedes and spiders, wasps and earwigs, cockroaches and mantises, woodlice and leeches. We can read a lot of valuable facts about the life of small creatures: places of living and homes, bodies and senses, fangs and stings, colours and patterns, how mothers take care of their little ones.
It was interesting for me to know that butterflies and dragonflies can travel from continent to continent and that some birds follow the dragonflies and eat them. I was surprised to read that a scared bird-eater hisses and flicks hairs into your face. The printing quality of the book is amazing and the pictures are very vivid, beautiful and true to life.
I can recommend this book to those children who love nature and are interested in Science.
